Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres – The Island of Women – Mexico is a quaint Caribbean island, just a short 17 minute ferry ride from Cancun across the Bahia de Mujeres (Bay of Women). “Isla” is 8 kilometres long and 1 kilometre wide. Historically, Isla Mujeres is a fishing village and although it has been discovered by tourists it still retains its charming atmosphere. The colorful downtown area, known as ‘Centro’ is four by six blocks – perfect for exploring by foot. The town square, vibrant homes, and many shops and restaurants add to its appeal. The climate in March is perfect with the average temperatures ranging between 23 and 28 celsius.

Available on Isla

  • ATM Machines are located at 2 banks HSBC & Banamex in Centro.
  • Pharmacies are well stocked with many located in Centro and outlying neighborhoods.
  • Grocery Stores are located in Centro and outlying neighborhoods.

Getting to Isla Mujeres – It’s Fun & Easy!

Travel Overview

WMF participants book return flights to and from Cancun, Mexico with plenty of flights to choose from daily. Once in Cancun, it’s a short shuttle ride to the ferry dock, a quick ferry ride over the brilliant turquoise Caribbean waters, and then you’re on Isla.

Book your flight to Cancun. We encourage you to comparison shop for flights via different online travel services such as Travelocity, Expedia, etc.

Shuttle Service to Puerto Juarez (where you catch ferry to Isla)

Arrange a shuttle to the “Ultramar Ferry Terminal, Puerto Juarez” online, in advance:

WMF highly recommends pre-booking a shuttle service through Discovery Mundo, one of the best shuttle services in Cancun. The staff speak English and will meet you at the airport with your name on a We Move Forward banner. The WMF 2016 Transport Package includes: A discounted WMF attendees shuttle service to and from the airport, welcome water, and ferry tickets to Isla, making transit from the airport to Isla Mujeres easy, simple, quick, and at a good savings.

If you don’t make pre-arrangements you can take a taxi when you arrive but the cost is about four times that of a shuttle.

When you arrive at the Cancun Airport…

Once in the Cancun Airport you will go through immigration & get your passport stamped, retrieve your luggage, go through customs, and should walk past all vendors inside the airport, and meet your shuttle service provider just outside the exit doors.

At the Ultramar Puerto Juarez Ferry Terminal…

Ultra Mar Ferry to Isla Mujeres
You will get in line and wait for the ferry to arrive, which is every 30 minutes from very early in the morning until late in the evening.  If you book your WMF shuttle package in advance, the driver will have your ferry ticket.  If you make other arrangement, you will purchase your ferry ticket at the ferry terminal – the cost is 78 pesos one-way.

Once on Isla, walk to or take a short & inexpensive taxi ride (between $2 & $5 USD) to your hotel, check-in and enjoy the sun, ocean and warm breeze.
